Jews and Hebrew: Past, Present, Future

Language is tied to identity in cultures around the world. The Jews have had a greater than 3,000-year history with the Hebrew language, but not always as a spoken language. This session will discuss some of that history, and some of the ways in which the Hebrew language can be part of the Jewish future around the world.

Aaron Koller is associate professor of Near Eastern and Jewish Studies at Yeshiva University. His most recent book is Esther in Ancient Jewish Thought (Cambridge University Press, 2014). Aaron has served as a visiting professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and held research fellowships at the Albright Institute for Archaeological Research and the Hartman Institute.
